Former Gaffer Tips Leeds Star For The Top Under Bielsa – “Will Make Him A Star”

|

There were plenty of Leeds United fans who thought ‘who’ when the club brought in Polish third division side Ruch Chorzow youngster Mats Bogusz last January.

The 18-year-old youth international has only made one senior appearance since then for manager Marcelo Bielsa, making his full debut in the EFL Cup clash with Stoke City in August, but he’s certainly been very impressive at Under 23 level for Carlos Corberan and fans have high hopes for his career progression.

Polish outlet Super Express recently interviewed the youngsters former manager, Juan Ramon Rocha, and he knows him well having handed the teenager his first team debut.

He also played alongside Bielsa during his playing days at Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys back in the 1970’s – and that’s how he came on our radar in the first place.

He explained.

“Once, with Krzysztof Warzycha, we went to a match of Ruch juniors. I immediately asked who this boy was. They answered it was Bogusz, but that he was very young. Even then I had no doubt and asked to include him in the first team. Then came the offer from Napoli, but only for a trail. I objected and said we either sell him or he stays. Trials are out of the question. And since I wish Bogusz and my friend Bielsa very well, I let Marcelo know that there is a talent in Chorzow that is worth paying attention to. At first Leeds didn’t seem to have a chance, because Brighton’s offer was much higher, but eventually it worked. I am happy because I know that Bogusz will not die with Marcelo. Bielsa will make him a star.”
